How about you guys trade Rask for Jack Johnson.

Then we keep Phil and deal with your worst asset. And you get our worst asset. Since both were rumored to be in that nixed deal as well.

Allegedly the Hurricanes tried to flip Elias Lindholm for Zucker straight up prior to the Dougie Hamilton deal.

Could be they circle back on that?

This is equivalent to a Wild fan suggesting they trade you their third round pick for your first round pick. It only makes sense for one team.

seems like Fenton may not have any interest in making another deal with Don Waddell any time soon.

Fenton probably wants to stay away from any trades with Carolina.

I think the market is still very good for Zucker, he has the 1 single element that cannot be taught...speed. With that being said, I have come up with my latest ideas for Fenton to do in trades to 1) improve the Wild for next year and moving forward and 2) help out other teams that either want a player or have a big need.

First trade - Send Spurgeon/Fiala/Eriksson-Ek to the Leafs for Nylander/Kadri/Kapanen. This will remove a lot of cap space for the Leads to give Marner his big contract, plus the puck-moving RH Dman they need. Sending Fiala and JEE also gives them 2 young players that can be dynamic AND relative inexpensive, as Toronto is tight in the cap with a new Marner contract.

This helps improve the Wild by getting a #2 C in Kadri, along with a couple of good right handed RWs, since they only have 1 in Kunin. Nylander can move to C after this year, to replace Koivu (my guess is that he retires after this year). The Wild have the cap space to absorb those contracts, plus re-signed Kapanen and Donato.

Second trade - Send Zucker/Rask/Pateryn to Anaheim for Manson/Perry. This is more based on the Ducks being listed as interested in Zucker. The biggest idea here is getting Anaheim out from under the $8.6 mil to Perry, as his career is slowing down. Yes, bad contract goes back in the form of Rask, and Pateryn is definitely a step down from Manson, but I base it on Anaheim really wanting Zucker.

With these 2 trades, here is what I would imagine the Wild lineup looking like...

Parise - Staal - Nylander
Donato - Kadri - Kapanen
Greenway - Koivu - Kunin
Foligno - Sturm - Perry

Scoring depth for all 4 lines. Defense would look like this...

Suter - Dumba
Brodin - Manson
Seeler - Belpedio/Mennell/Hunt

I dont think Fiala and Ek are enough. Would probably have to be Spurgeon, Zucker and maybe Greenway to get back Kapanen in that deal... That being said, I think the Wild and Leafs are natural trade partners.

How much would Toronto have to add to Nylander to pry Dumba away from Minnesota? Would it take such a ridiculous overpay that it would be completely unrealistic?

I think to put it in perspective, Dumba is one of the best Under 25 Dmen in the league right now. I think a more comparable would be a Marner for Dumba 1 for 1... but that's just my opinion.

Good thing you're opinion does not matter. Word is the Wild were going to throw in a low pick FOR that swap.

I don’t disagree with any of that...and on a one for one it would have to be Marner going back. Just feel like if the Leafs could add a young, top pairing RHD man to that group without giving up Marner or Matthews they would be as close to “complete” as they ever will be (hence the idea of a package with Nylander, maybe Dermott, a 1st or top prospect, etc.).

If any D is going to the Leafs from the Wild I think it would be Spurgeon. He has two years left on his deal and can bring back a nice haul. If Zucker and Spurgeon are packaged together I most definitely think Nylander is included in the players coming back.

Agreed... After all he's a 35 goals a year player in Fentons eyes...

How about a bright, shiny Michael Frolik?

He did amazing things at the World Championship.
